ASCAP PROMOTES BILL THOMAS
TO ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT/CHIEF OF STAFF,
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Bill ThomasThe American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has promoted Bill Thomas to Assistant Vice President/Chief of Staff, it was announced today by ASCAP Chief Executive Officer John A. LoFrumento. Formerly, Thomas served as Director of Public Affairs for ASCAP.

"Since joining ASCAP twelve years ago, Bill has led the legislative team to great success, maximizing the rewards to ASCAP members through comprehensive grass-roots campaigns on a variety of issues," stated LoFrumento. "He is a consummate professional, who possesses a broad range of legislative experience that is unmatched in the performing rights arena. We are delighted to recognize Bill’s contributions with this well deserved promotion, while at the same time, challenging his capabilities with even greater responsibilities as my Chief of Staff."

Thomas began his ASCAP career in 1990 as Assistant Director in the Public Affairs Department, and has worked on such issues as the current Music Online Competition Act (MOCA), the successful passage of Copyright Term Extension, and the Fairness in Music Licensing Act. Thomas is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts/Amherst with a B.A. degree in Communications.

Established in 1914, ASCAP is the world’s largest performing right organization with over 130,000 composer, lyricist and music publisher members. ASCAP is committed to protecting the rights of its members by licensing and collecting royalties for the public performance of their copyrighted works, and then distributing these fees to the Society’s members based on performances. ASCAP’s repertory spans the entire spectrum of music – from pop to symphonic, rock to gospel, Latin to country, to jazz, rhythm and blues, theater, film and television music. ASCAP’s Board of Directors is made up solely of writers and publishers elected by the membership.
